Magic Ninja Talks About His Musical Journey to Unleash Positivity

Magic Ninja is an up-and-coming producer who makes music across the electronic/house/progressive genres. His music has an uplifting and energetic vibe designed to inspire positive feelings and encourage people to live their lives to the fullest. His music is characterized by its infectious melodies, driving rhythms, and powerful energy, which come together to create a unique and unforgettable sound. In his own words, Magic Ninja’s music is all about celebrating the power of positivity and spreading love and kindness wherever he goes. Through his music, he aims to make the world a better place and inspire people to be better humans. Following his recent releases “Time for Love”, “Bas Tere Liye”, “Jaana”, and “Pillars of Creation” Magic Ninja looks to continue his hot streak with his latest release “Better”! Billboard Sound was excited to meet up with Magic Ninja for an exclusive interview, transcribed below.

Billboard Sound (BS): How did you get involved in the music business?

Magic Ninja (MN): It is a long journey, which begun back in 1995, when I was active in the local demo scene as a programer and the musician crafting tracks on the personal computer using a popular software of these days called Trackers. Somebody might remember names of tools such as the Scream Tracker or the Fast Tracker. At the same time of the technical university studies I have been moderately active as a DJ playing in several local clubs. Later around 2003 I focused on the radio show, DJing. Music production was still a kind of relaxation, hobby and one of my favourite topics as well as the magic area for the exploration providing endless possibilities for music experiments. All my tracks of these times have been lost on a dead hard-drive. As a DJ, I played at gigs in Prague (and several other cities in Czechia), Geneve, Bulle (Swiss), Crozet (France), (surprisingly a total coincidence) Tokyo (Japan). Then I spent many years professionally in the other industry, which I still gladly do nowadays. On the other hand, I felt that I would like to do something creative in music after years. So I started to experiment with piano and synths again. I became actively producing music again around 2020. It is a kind of my music reincarnation. Though my main business is still elsewhere, I wanted to turn one of my dreams into reality – to make a professional top quality tracks in genres which are the closest to my heart, feelings and imagination. I wanted to release tracks into the public audience, which is possible nowadays thanks to the Internet.

BS: What’s the meaning of your track “Better”?

MN: There is no special philosophy behind it. Just feel the music rhythm, enjoy sound layers, pumping beats, synth riffs and feel better.

BS: Who inspired you to make music?

MN: My mind, my heart, my feelings, my imagination.

BS: How would you describe the music that you typically create?

MN: Pumping groovy beats, bold bass line, rich piano, string guitar, vocals, synth riffs, percussions, echoes, reverbs, stereo effects, harmony, fusion of the typical piano sound and the best of the electronical music. In genre terms: deep house, deep progressive trance. In other words: positive energy, pumping beats, harmony in your mind, energy in your body which turns people into the dance, good mood, relaxation.

BS: What is your creative process like?

MN: Ideas for the melody, vocals, sometimes lyrics, groovy beats, basic elements of the bass line. Trying to play ideas on synth piano, finding the sound of beats on the groove box. When all components fit together, it is crafted in the FL software track by track – kick drum, hi-hat, snare, tom drums, tympany percussions, bass line, synth riffs, piano lead, piano riffs, guitar motives, vocal motives, effects, more effects and endless fine tuning and polishing of the whole track. When it is done, mixed and mastered, it is time to prepare ideas for a music video and its production. When the track is done, I create exports, description data for the release for the distribution platform, select image for the cover.

BS: Who would you like to collaborate with?

MN: There are more gals and guys who do/play the stuff I like. To name a few: Nora En Pure, Astrix, Makoto, Charlotte de Witte, DJ Krush, Alex M.O.R.P.H., and Talamasca.

BS: If you could open a show for any artist, who would it be?

MN: Talamasca or Astrix at OZORA festival.

BS: What is one message you would give to your fans?

MN: Turn your dreams into reality.

BS: What would you be doing now if it weren’t for your music career?

MN: Not a good question for me. I would still do something else in a different industry. Although I like music production, it is not my main business.

BS: How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?

MN: It’s good that there are tons of possibilities on how you can distribute your music the easy way. It’s bad there is a huge amount of producers and music production, there is huge competition. A lot of people are spewing loads of low-quality musical ballast into the world. Listeners are overloaded. It’s hard to get established, it’s hard to get your music played by music platforms, radios, DJs at festivals. But it’s a challenge, it’s fun, and the Internet in the 21st century is absolutely amazing in the plethora of possibilities it offers us.

BS: Which famous musicians do you admire?

MN: Definitely, my big inspiration back in 90’ was The K.L.F. for their stadium house music and Underworld to name just two. There are many other very good musicians which have influenced me and which I like to listen to their production.

BS: What’s the best advice you’ve been given?

MN: Never give up!

BS: What’s next for you?

MN: Finding a way to play my music at the OZORA festival.
